Loopve

— Can we find love within a never-ending loop?

2023
Immersive Interactive Installation
Variable size
Arduino, Microphone, Music box, Plastic bag, Max MSP, Airpump, Resolume

In today's prevalent fast-food culture and individualism, love is becoming increasingly materialistic and superficial. The development of digital technology and the popularity of social media have made this trend more apparent. People indulge in a repetitive cycle of romantic relationships, driven by the motive to extract benefits from others. They try to find the perfect partner of their fantasies through continuous quick relationships, but like a rapidly inflating balloon, the inevitable end is only bursting and emptiness.

Loopve uses a music box, a disposable plastic bag, and cyclically rotating lights to create an interactive installation with sound and visuals. This installation aims to recreate and exaggerate the process of rapid romance, allowing the audience to reflect on the nature and meaning of love amidst the psychedelic cycle of lights and the disillusionment of plastic-like emotions.

Inspiration

The inspiration comes from the fast-paced dating experiences of my friends. Casual relationships and one-night stands have become a common phenomenon in their single circles, and even some more conservative friends have been influenced by their surroundings and become more open to casual dating.

Compared to the traditional notions of long-lasting and deep emotional connections in the pre-internet era, modern relationships appear to be more restless and hasty. The idea of separating "sex" and "love" has also been accepted by more and more young people.
